Friends and readers,
I wrote a blog about this case months ago:
Zimmerman totally acquitted. I did watch the testimony for a few minutes and it was no mystery to me why Zimmerman did not take the stand. His story was a complete bunch of lies. And it didn’t make sense. He had been rehearsed in it if anyone asked him and all his friends had been gotten to lie for him. Had the prosecuting attorney got at him he would have torn the improbabilities and inconsistencies to shreds — with the evidence of what happened.
The jury did see far more revealing photos of Martin shortly after he was killed. I post a more discreet one:
I don’t want to go on about this; the fierce racism of US society is before us. For another example see the murder of Kenneth Chamberlain. Not even a manslaughter charge could stick.
The further bad news is this helps spread “stand your ground” laws: yet more lawless behavior with guns (as if we didn’t have enough).
A short statement from Sharpton, echoed round the US by legal groups (one demonstration in NYC):
In a nugget, a young black man has lost his precious life. When we are dead, we are dead forever. A stupid and obsessive white man who was aggressively involved in spreading “stand your grounds” laws and customs, killed him wantonly. Martin was unarmed, and Zimmerman had a gun. Zimmerman has been allowed to get away with this (and you can see his smirk in many of the shots after the verdict) because Martin was black, because Zimmerman’s prejudice against black people was shared by and enough to justify him in the eyes of 5 white women (one of wonm was hispanic who are themselves afraid of black young men and don’t in the least value the life of a black person — I cannot understand how the black woman was pressured into voting not guilty. Huge amounts of money helped: from ALEC and conservative groups which paid for the lawyers and promoted these heinous new state laws.
